Sleaford Mods are the sound of British punk stripped down to its rawest form. Jason Williamson’s confrontational, spoken-word bark rides over Andrew Fearn’s stripped-back, hypnotic basslines, a formula so simple and so brutal it’s been credited with reviving UK punk and directly influencing acts like IDLES and Shame.
Their lyrics take aim at class, austerity, and the general absurdity of modern Britain: sharp, funny, and furious in equal measure. Their latest album, The Demise of Planet X, is their most expansive yet, with guest turns from Gwendoline Christie, Aldous Harding, and Sue Tompkins, pushing the sound into unexpected new textures without losing an ounce of bite.
Live, it’s just the two of them on stage, no band, no filler, just Williamson pacing and ranting like the whole thing might combust, and Fearn behind the decks locking the groove in place. It’s raw, it’s confrontational, and it’s one of the most electric nights punk has to offer.
